If people gain an appreciation and better understanding of closed captioning and the closed captioning process and its capabilities, then the expectations of the public regarding closed or open captioning will rise by default.
Are you fed up with the lack of closed-captioning services available on television and online?
Does it aggravate you that when closed-captioning services are available, they often are at best incomplete and at worst complete gibberish?
It doesn’t need to be this way.
Let us introduce you to The Closed Captioning Project.
The Closed Captioning Project LLC is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to the improvement and accessibility of closed captioned media.
The CCP believes that while accessible closed-captioning services are mandated by law, in practice they are woefully inadequate.
We believe that the answer is not machine-generated captions, which to date have proven to be incompetent, or crowdsourced captioning, which has a limited scope and is performed by well-meaning volunteers without substantial oversight or quality control.
